Quick Post #1: Google Search Options

I heard on a podcast the idea of posting short, 10 minute posts with useful tips or information, rather than always a long article. I liked the idea, so this is the first one.

Did you like the old Google search, without an AI summary, ads, and other extra material at the top? You can get it back. The key is to adding &udm=14 at the end of your search string.

And there are two ways to make it even easier. First, you can create a macro to drop it in and set this modified google search as your default search engine. See https://tedium.co/2024/05/17/google-web-search-make-default/

Second, you can use this webpage, which adds it for you: https://udm14.org/

Even though I use DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/) as my default and primary search engine, for better privacy, there are times that I use Google. So I find this helpful.

Best of all: set DuckDuckGo as your default search engine in your browser. When you want Google, just precede your DuckDuckGo search with !g. And when you want just Google search results, precede the search terms with !g, and at &utm-14 at the end.
